Portree harbour with great views of surrounding hills
Activities
Skye attracts many different types of tourists, those keen on wildlife, photography, walking, cycling and many more. There are great walks trails around the Quiraing, the Old Man of Storr and the Cuillin ridge.

Neist point
Nearby Neist Point is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland and can be found on the most westerly tip of Skye near the township of Glendale. From the path you will see stunning views of the high cliffs and the lighthouse itself, at sunset the view is made even more spectacular making this a top destination for landscape photographers.

Dunvegan Castle and Gardens
Dunvegan Castle is the seat of the MacLeod of MacLeod, chief of the Clan MacLeod. Probably a fortified site from the earliest times, the castle was first built in the 13th century and developed piecemeal over the centuries. In the 19th century the whole castle was remodelled in a mock-medieval style. The castle is built on an elevated rock overlooking an inlet on the eastern shore of Loch Dunvegan, a sea loch. Dunvegan Castle’s five acres of formal gardens began life in the 18th century. In stark contrast to the barren moor land and mountains which dominate Skye’s landscape, the castle’s Water Garden, Rose Garden, Walled Garden and woodland walks provide a hidden oasis for an eclectic mix of flowers, exotic plants, specimen trees and shimmering pools fed by waterfalls and streams flowing down to the sea.

Coral beach
Known locally as a ‘wee gem’, Claigan Coral is a fantastic place to spend a day. Despite its name, the beach is not actually made of coral but of fossilised and sun-bleached algae.

Quiraing
The Quiraing is an outstanding area of natural beauty. It was formed thousands of years ago by a series of monumental landslips and is one of the most picturesque wilderness areas in Scotland.
Visitors travel from across the globe to experience the walking trail that runs all the way through The Quiraing, where wild hilly peaks cross paths with wide open plains in a panorama that begs to be photographed.

Old Man of Storr
The ‘Old Man’ is a large pinnacle of rock that stands high and can be seen for miles around. As part of the Trotternish ridge the Storr was created by a massive ancient landside, leaving one of the most photographed landscapes in the world.

Cuillin ridge
There is something in the Cuillin for anyone visiting Skye; from the tourist viewing the dramatic peaks from the roadside to the hardened mountaineer on the lofty peaks. Beautifully crafted footpaths now lead into the dramatic corries in little over an hour where the scale suddenly becomes apparent. Some peaks can be reached without any need to take hands out of pockets and others can only be accessed by those with strong nerve and a rope is frequently used.
